You’d think that shopping for a basic t-shirt would be easy. But being picky with your basics is what is going to give you the best outfits. Get the basics right and that really is half the battle.

I have rounded up three brands to keep in mind when you are next shopping for basics. They are three female owned brands that produce quality pieces with intention.

When you see basics like this you realise that there are basics, and then there are Basics with a capital B. Each piece thoughtfully cut, every detail considered with purpose. A relatively new brand born in 2021, Flore Flore has been on the bodies of all my favourite fashion influencers. The brand is based in Amsterdam, produced by a family-owned factory in Portugal and uses organic cotton and paper packaging that is FSC® certified.

I absolutely ruined my favourite Reformation baby tee this past summer, the Car tee might very well be the new replacement I’ve been looking for. The Esme tank is also one I have been eyeing up for months. I love cotton basics that have intentional details - a back seam, a thick ribbing - and Flore Flore’s pieces fit the bill.

Comfortable. Laidback. Cool. Donni creates easy to wear pieces to wear everyday. Safe to say, I’m obsessed! I’ve been on a quest to find more work from home comfy, yet not sloppy outfits and these pieces might be my new uniform.

For the cleanest and most essential basics for your wardrobe I feel like Clyque is your brand. With a vision of ‘less is more’ for your wardrobe, each piece is produced to be easy to wear and flattering.

Staples that are easy to pull out and pair with your favourite denim is my love language. Sometimes the best outfits are made of the simplest pieces.
